Nestled in the heart of Virginia’s Piedmont region, just south of Charlottesville, MushroomTopia at Woodridge Solar is state-of-the-art mushroom cultivation facility that harnesses the power of solar energy to grow the tastiest mushrooms in central Virginia. Initially, solar panels and mushrooms may seem like curious bedfellows, but upon further reflection, the partnership could not make more sense. Solar panels crave and absorb the one thing that mushrooms dislike—sunlight. As a result, the shade provided by our solar arrays provides the ideal location for mushroom cultivation. At MushroomTopia, we cultivate a variety of local and exotic mushroom species, including Chicken of the Woods, Hen of the Woods, Lion’s Mane, Oyster, Wood Blewit, and Shiitake. Although not purposefully cultivated, our foraging area provides the opportunity to encounter several additional local species, including Honey Mushrooms and the uniquely vibrant Yellowfoot Chanterelle. In addition to taking home the mushrooms you find along our trails, you can purchase several of our cultivated varieties in our on-site market, where you will also find products offered by our partner farms located throughout the state. While you’re there, be sure to pick up a container of our Lion’s Mane powder, whose medicinal properties have the power to cure whatever ails you.
