Woodridge Solar is a proposed solar energy system developed by Hexagon Energy LLC, for Albermarle County. This project, aims to convert over 1500 acres of former timber farmland into a renewable energy power system that, once completed, will power between 25,000 and 60,000 residents over the next 30 years. The site will deliver over 315 million kWh of renewable energy, emission free, to the Dominion Power regional energy grid. The site location, currently contains wetland, tree farms, young hardwood forests, and highly disturbed clearcut land area. Woodridge Solar plans to combine power production with the ecological restoration of the site through the planting of native wildflower and grasslands, reforestation, and the integration sheep grazing. Additionally, buffer zones for forested and watershed protection will be implemented to ensure power production will not disturb or polluted the surrounding ecology and protected historic viewsheds of cultural landscapes such as Monticello. In addition to being site for ecological restoration and clean power production, Woodridge Solar will also bring over 250 jobs to the Albemarle County area through its different phases while acting as an additional source of Tax revenue totaling $193,000 in Personal Property tax annual, $6,700,000 over the lifetime of the project.
