Midway Solar
Sachida Pradhan, Ayush Gala
Midway Solar Center is a proposed solar energy system developed by Sun Tribe Developers, for Albemarle County. This project aims to convert over 80 acres out of 136 acres of former timber and agricultural farmland into a renewable energy power system that, once completed, will power around 2,600 homes over the next 25 years. The site will deliver over 8 MWh of renewable energy, emission free, to the Central Virginia Electric Cooperative. The site location currently has Mecums River bordering its North, West and South Boundary, tree farms, young hardwood forests, and agricultural land. Midway Solar Center plans to combine power production with the ecological restoration of the site through the planting of native wildflower and grasslands under the solar panels. Additionally, buffer zones for forested and watershed protection will be implemented to ensure power production will not disturb or pollute the surrounding ecology and its protected historic viewsheds of cultural resources around the site. This project will not affect the real estate or property valuation around the parcel. They plan to return to the site in its present condition.
